This Spring green was inspired by the color of the cedar shake siding on the Old Lucketts Store. This charming gem of an antique shop can be found in the hamlet of Lucketts, west of the Potomac River in Virginia. This vintage green was a popular furniture color in the 1930's and 1940's.
MMS Milk Paint Description: Milk Paint is a powdered paint that has been around for thousands of years. It was found in the pyramids in Egypt and has been used in America for years on furniture, walls, barns, etc. It is a versatile paint that can be used to achieve a variety of looks from chippy and distressed to smooth and sleek. Our new MilkPaint™ formula is made from four 100% natural ingredients that you can actually pronounce - casein (milk protein), lime (calcium hydroxide), natural pigments, and plant-based filler.
Mixing:
Mix approximately 1 part water to 1 part milk paint powder with a blender (strictly used for paint), by shaking in a lidded container, hand mixing with a whisk, stir stick, or with a motorized paint mixer.
Add warm water to container first, then add milk paint powder slowly and mix for 3-5 minutes.
Paint a test swatch to make sure desired consistency has been achieved. If the paint is translucent or runny, it is too thin. If the brush drags and the paint appears gritty or chunky, it is too thick. Add more water or powder accordingly and mix again.
-Clean project thoroughly prior to painting with soap and water
-Mix equal parts water and milk paint powder
-Stir and allow to rest until pigments are fully dissolved
-Test before using to ensure the pigments are fully dissolved
-Adjust consistency as need by adding more water or powder
-Continue to stir throughout to prevent settling of pigments
-Dry time is approximately 30 minutes
-2-3 coats may be required for desired look
-For smoother finish, let dry and lightly sand with fine grit paper
-Remove dust prior to applying finish
-MilkPaint™ requires a top coat for durability
-Top Coats will deepen the color when applied
-Refrigerate sealed container of excess mixed paint for up to 2 weeks
